ABOUT THE LEGION
The
Royal
British
Legion
is
now
the
UK's
largest
charity
organisation,
and
provides
financial,
social
and
emotional
support
to
more
than
10
million
people
who
have
served,
or
are
currently
serving
in
the
Armed
Forces,
and
their
dependants
Thousands
of
British
men
and
women
are
in
action,
around
the
world,
everyday.
They
know
that
if
they
need
help,
now
or
in
the
future,
the
Legion
is
always
on
active
duty for them.
The poppy is the Legion's iconic symbol,
and every year the Poppy Appeal
campaign raises millions of pounds for its
many worthy causes.
The
Legion
is
regarded
as
the
nation's
custodian
of
Remembrance,
and
although
the
needs
of
Britain's
military
personnel
have
changed
over
the
years,
the
Legion will always safeguard their well-being.
As
a
legacy
to
the
harsh
cruelties
of
World
War
I,
the
British
Legion
was
founded
in
1921
to
provide
the
ex-
Service
community
with
a
voice.
One
that
its
450,000+
members, worldwide, makes sure never goes unheard.
In
recognition
of
its
50
years
of
dedicated
service,
in
1971
it
was
granted
a
Royal
Charter,
giving
it
the
privilege of adding the prefix ‘Royal’ to its name.
